Dhara may be conducted on a specific part of the body or all over the body. Depending on the area of the body it is termed differently – Sirodhara, Thakradhara, Sarvangdhara or Ekangdhara
Sirodhara is a treatment in which involves pouring a stream of continuously flowing oil on the patient’s head, who is made to lie on a wooden table or Droni. The oil is poured on the forehead, specifically the hairline, from a specified height using a specially designed Dhara pot. Sirodhara is an effective treatment for several ailments such as stress related disorders, sleeplessness and has also proven to be an excellent relaxation procedure.
This treatment is a variation of Sirodhara in which medicated buttermilk and decoctions of herbs are poured on the forehead instead of medicated oil. It is recommended for ailments such as headaches, psychiatric diseases, eye diseases etc.
This treatment involves conducting the Dhara therapy on the entire body. In cases of sleep disturbances, psoriasis and other similar ailments, Sarvang Dhara is employed.
